Pirlo gets Olympic call

Andrea Pirlo, Ivan Pelizzoli and Matteo Ferrari are set to be named in Italy’s Olympic squad.
The U-21 side qualified for the event last month and boss Claudio Gentile will be allowed to include three over-aged players.
Speculation had suggested that the likes of Gigi Buffon, Francesco Totti and Antonio Cassano could be selected.
However, it now seems that Gentile – after talks with full boss Marcello Lippi – will choose the three men whom he has Coached at Azzurrini level in the past.
Pelizzoli, of Roma, will be handed the gloves given the inconsistent performances of U-21 first choice Marco Amelia in the past year.
Parma’s Matteo Ferrari should be drafted into the centre of defence, with Milan’s Andrea Pirlo (pictured) dictating the play in central midfield.
Gentile is likely to use a 4-5-1 formation consisting of Pelizzoli; Bonera, Barzagli, Ferrari, Moretti; Mesto, Pinzi, Pirlo, De Rossi, Gasbarroni; Gilardino.
The national side will meet up for training on August 2, they will fly out on the 9th and take on Ghana in their first match on the 12th. They will also face Japan and Paraguay in the group stages.
