09/03/2003. Following the completion of his loan move from Ajax to AS Roma, Cristian Chivu is looking forward to making his Serie A debut for the Giallorossi.
"I am happy everything is over," he said. "I can't wait to train with my team-mates and debut at the season's restart.
"The worst moment of the saga was when the Ajax chairman called me up last Friday telling me to return to Amsterdam. I answered back to him that I wouldn't do so, that I would continue to follow the indications of my new coach."
He continued: "Carew (signed from Valencia on Friday) called me right after he signed with Roma. He's my friend since my Under 17 days. He's a great striker. With him we are all set, we have a great team that has an enormous offensive potential. Cassano, for example, is a great player, that doesn't cease to surprise me.
"Now the worst moment is over. Capello and the club have been always close to me. They kept telling me to be calm, that everything would resolve itself. Rome and Roma have made me feel important. Since day 1 the feeling with the city and the fans has been great. The day of the team presentation was fantastic. I would have never imagined to feel such affection. Too bad for that error of mine that cost us a goal (in a friendly). For two to three minutes I was under shock, but the fans helped me to find myself again thanks to their support."
