Rudi Garcia has praised his team for the spirit and character they showed in battling back from a goal behind to draw 1-1 with Juventus, despite playing with ten men.
Speaking shortly after the final whistle blew on a tight top-of-the-table affair at the Olimpico, the Giallorossi coach said: "We know that games like this are often decided by set pieces and that's how both the goals came about tonight; apart from those there weren't many chances at either end.
"What I can say is that we responded magnificently. Considering that we were a man and a goal down, to end the game playing the way we did shows you that we're alive and kicking. We showed immense character.
"It was a highly tactical game. We had to take a few risks with our formation because we were trailing and a man short. We got at them high up the pitch and held a high defensive line. It's just a shame we couldn't find that second goal in the last ten minutes because we deserved it in the second half.
"I got the changes right? The players who come on are always capable of making a difference. The problem was that we hurried things in the first half when we needed to circulate the ball better and make the most of the wide areas. But we should also remember that we were up against the league leaders and they defend very well.
"In terms of the league standings, there are 13 games left to play and I'll say again what I've been saying for a while: we have to hold onto second place. We've consolidated our position tonight because we gained a point on Napoli. Only by defending second place can we keep up the pressure on Juve."
