Liverpool FC 05 August 2009  
   Liverpool FC today confirmed they have agreed a deal with AS Roma for the transfer of Italian international Alberto Aquilani, subject to a medical.  
Liverpool concluded their discussions with Roma once the sale of Xabi Alonso to Real Madrid was finally agreed.
  
Aquilani, who recently celebrated his 25th birthday, is expected to feature heavily for Italy in next year’s World Cup finals.
  
Rafa Benitez said: "Alberto is a very good player and I'm delighted we've reached agreement with Roma for his transfer. He will travel to Merseyside later this week for a medical. Alberto has a winning mentality and great experience in both Serie A and the Champions League.
  
"He has long been recognised as a top class talent in Italy, captaining his country at both Under 19 and Under 21 levels before establishing himself in the senior national side."

本来以为今年葵花续约后，不会保留近年来一年走一球星的传统了，但还是按照传统走了，但相对好的是走的不是绝对主力，也不是直接加盟竞争对手。葵花在罗马确实位置有些尴尬，后腰竞争不过德罗西，皮萨罗，前腰也不能完全替代佩罗塔，每次有机会打出来确立主力位置都又早早退出竞争，拿着主力的薪水，享受罗马制造带来的球迷的特殊爱戴，却始终在光头眼中成为鸡肋式的球员。这下是去利物浦接班离开阿隆索的主力位置的，希望有所好运，只是要有不少女球迷是要失望了。
