Inter boss Roberto Mancini has invited his club to make a summer bid for Roma’s Francesco Totti.

"If (owner) Massimo Moratti could buy anybody then I would ask for Totti," said the Nerazzurri boss.

"I know it is simple and obvious answer but he is able to make a difference to any side in the world. Totti is an extraordinary player."

Totti’s future in the capital is in doubt given that his present contract expires in the summer of 2006.

He’s publicly stated that he would like to remain with the Giallorossi but only if the club can convince him that they will be able to fight for major honours.

Yet Mancini believes that Totti’s close links with the city – he was born and bred in Rome – will make an exit difficult.

"It would be very hard to sign him, seeing his importance to Roma, and I am fully aware of that," continued the Sampdoria legend.

Should the Italian international leave the outfit he supported as a boy, both Milan clubs would express an interest.

However, speculation suggests that Real Madrid would be in pole position to sign him if Totti really does pack his bags.

Francesco Totti tiene claro que se quedará en la Roma, a pesar del interés que han mostrado varios clubes, entre ellos el Real Madrid, por ficharle al término de la presente temporada. "Mi futuro está en la Roma. Mi pensamiento de cara al futuro ya lo he expresado", aseguró el mediapunta italiano en declaraciones al diario deportivo 'Corriere dello Sport'.

Totti agradeció el interés mostrado por clubes como el Inter o el Real Madrid. "Agradezco este aprecio, pero ya he expresado mi intención de seguir en la Roma", recalcó. Hay que destacar que el buen momento de juego que está atravesando en estos momentos el conjunto romano se debe fundamentalmente al buen trabajo de Totti, que está siendo secundado por Cassano y Montella, que podría renovar en breve con el cuadro 'giallorosso'.

Totti’s future in the capital is in doubt given that his present contract expires in the summer of 2006.
But he has again publicly declared his intention to remain with his home-town club for some time to come.

"I’m obviously pleased with the words of recognition spoken by Mancini and (Juventus director general) Luciano Moggi recently," he told the Corriere dello Sport.

"But I’ve already expressed my thoughts about the future. I’m happy to have become Roma’s fifth highest appearance maker and I don’t want to stop climbing that table."


Meanwhile, Totti has denied suggestions that he intentionally picked up a yellow card in the 3-0 win over Livorno at the weekend.

The player was one booking away from a suspension which means he will miss the Palermo tie, but not the big clash against rivals Juventus.

"It makes me smile that people think I looked for that caution," he explained. "That wasn’t the case and if it was then I wouldn’t have done it in the middle of the first half.

"Let us no joke around here. After all, I’ll be missing the Palermo game who are a direct rival for Champions’ League qualification."
