Aston Villa boss David O'Leary is keen to link up with in-demand Olivier Dacourt again after signing him for £ 7.2 million whilst manager of Leeds.
Villa could find money to be a stumbling block in any deal for Dacourt, as Chairman Doug Ellis is unwilling to match Dacourt's current basic wage, believed to be around £ 35,000-a-week.
"I know David would like to bring Olivier back to England but the problem he has is persuading Mr Ellis to pay the wages," said the player's agent, Bruno Satin.
"Olivier will finish his career in England, I am sure of that, but he wants to go to a club that is playing in Europe.
"He is still ambitious and wants to win trophies, so if he goes back to England it will be to a top-five club."

Olivier Dacourt has admitted to being flattered at being linked with Barcelona and Juventus, but claims he is not seeking a move away from Roma.
The powerful French midfielder has battled back from what was a career-threatening injury and is looking to make an impact in the second half of the season.
Despite being injured, Dacourt was linked with a move away from the Eternal City - with Premiership sides Aston Villa and Birmingham also expressing interest in the combative midfielder.
Dacourt says he is flattered to be linked with the cream of the European crop, but is focused on returning to his best form.
"I've never said I want to go away," he told Corriere dello Sport. "I'm at Roma and I am only thinking of returning to playing at 100 percent.
"There is lots of time and this is not the time to think about my future. I've never thought about it.
"Barcelona and Juventus are great teams and it is a pleasure knowing they are looking, but I do not know if Roma want to sell me.
"In football you never know. There are players like Dellas whose contract is set to expire in June and he does not know what the future holds. So for me it is carpe diem.
"But for the moment I have not thought about it. I read the papers and see the rumours which say I could be sold all over the world. But, for me, the most important thing is to recover from injury."
Dacourt made a playing return against Chievo last weekend and it came as a relief to the Frenchman as he felt his career could have been ended by his muscle injury.
"It was a bad injury," he added. "Worse than first thought.
"It could easily have ended my career. The damaged muscle was close to the sciatic nerve and it could have had a lot of consequences.
"This is the reason it has taken three months for me to return." （天空体育）

Former Leeds United midfielder Dacourt was expected to leave in January with offers from the Premiership and Spain, but he remained in the Capital.
The situation is not set to last as his contract expires in 2006 and the club does not wish to renew the deal. Barcelona were already showing interest last month and are reportedly back in talks for a summer switch.
Frank Rijkaard’s side has competition, however, as French outfit Olympique Lyonnaise are also tracking Dacourt for a return to his homeland.
