| Roma chief operating officer Rosella Sensi is keeping her fingers crossed that Cristian Chivu will remain in the capital.
The defender’s future is in doubt because his contract expires in 2008, but the Giallorossi are hopeful that he will extend his stay.
“I hope to confirm Chivu,” said Sensi on Wednesday. “I haven’t met the player yet, but the important thing is that Roma want to confirm all of their players.
“But it is also fundamental for us to know that the players want to be a part of this amazing squad,” the President’s daughter continued.
“There are many footballers who have this desire and I hope Chivu is one of them.”
The Romanian’s agent, Andrea Pretti, last week stated that his client wanted to stay with the club despite rumours suggesting otherwise.
Chivu, signed from Ajax in 2003, has been associated with a host of clubs in the past such as Real Madrid, Barcelona, Chelsea, Inter, Milan and Juve.
Sensi was also questioned on Roma’s potential for next season, but she preferred to keep her expectations to herself.
“I don’t want to make any predictions as it wouldn’t be fair,” she added. “There are matches to play and every game is unpredictable.
“We have one certainty – Roma have a great Coach and excellent players. We have a solid base to work on.” |
