Olivier Dacourt is believed to be looking for a move back to England during the January transfer period.
Roma are still struggling financially and are ready to listen to offers for the French international who is contracted to the club until 2006.
Dacourt is believed to be one of the biggest earners at Roma and they are keen to shed his wages - and may even allow him to leave for a nominal sum.
Italian agent Giorgio de Giorgis - who works with Dacourt's agent Bruno Satin - confirmed there was major interest in the former Everton and Leeds star.
De Giorgis has revealed an initial approach from The Premiership has been snubbed and this is thought to have come from either Birmingham or West Brom.
"We cannot deny that a number of teams are asking about him, in Italy and all the main foreign countries," de Giorgis confirmed.
"We received an offer from England, but the squad did not meet his satisfaction.
"If a concrete proposal arrived this month then I believe the club would look at it seriously."
Skysports.com has learnt that Dacourt is on Middlesbrough's list of potential targets, and the player is understood to have spoken with former Leeds team-mate Mark Viduka about the Teessiders.
Sources close to the player have confirmed that he would accept a move to The Riverside and now Boro are believed to be weighing up their options.
Former favourite Geremi and Fulham's Steed Malbranque are also thought to be under the consideration of manager Steve McClaren - who is likely to only sign one high-profile midfielder during the transfer window this month.（天空体育）
