Bayer confirm Lucio interest Wednesday 25 June, 2003

Bayer Leverkusen have slapped a massive £14m price tag on the head of Roma target Lucio.
The Brazilian has become the Italian side’s latest transfer objective after President Franco Sensi revealed he would sign the stopper.
"There is an offer on the table but we haven’t concluded negotiations," Bayer general director Reiner Calmund told Berlin newspaper ‘BZ.’
"The situation should become a lot clearer in the next couple of days but we are looking for around £14m."
That is substantially higher than the £8m which was believed to be sufficient enough to sign the 25-year-old.
But Roma, who lost out on Chievo’s Nicola Legrottaglie to Juve last week, must be pleased to hear Lucio’s comments on the proposed transfer.
"They are a great side and I think I would be happy there," he told the ‘Tuttosport’ newspaper.
"I would improve as a player even if they are not in the Champions’ League. With great players like Totti, Emerson and Montella they will be back in it soon."
Lucio, also linked with Real Madrid in the past, added: "I know that I would be replacing Aldair but I have used him as an example throughout my career already."
The Giallorossi have also been linked with moves for Philippe Mexes of Auxerre and Monaco stopper Rafael Marquez.
