Roma Coach Luciano Spalletti has offered to tender his resignation, according to reports in Italy.
Spalletti was visibly upset following his side’s defeat to Palermo at the weekend and criticised his outfit for their poor performance.
Since then it has been alleged that the former Udinese boss announced in a meeting with his players that he was ready to do the honourable thing by offering to resign from his post.
Whether or not this was a ploy to get a reaction from the Giallorossi remains to be seen, but Roma’s directors are said to have given him their full backing and refused his quit threat.
It has been a tough first season in charge for Spalletti who has had to contend with the Antonio Cassano saga and a debilitating injury crisis at the club from the capital.
To make matters worse the Tuscan tactician also has his hands tied by the ban preventing his club from recruiting reinforcements during the January transfer window.
Sunday’s defeat saw Roma slip to tenth in the table and they now haven’t won in Serie A for four matches.
The Giallorossi need to get back to winning ways against Basel at the Olimpico tomorrow night if they are to progress to the knockout stages of the UEFA Cup.
