Spurs prepare to meet the cost of Mido's £3.5m return ticket

MIDO is on the verge of a remarkable return to Tottenham Hotspur, the club that he left just three months ago. The Barclays Premiership team last night agreed a deal with AS Roma worth £3.5 million for the Egypt forward.

The player is expected to hold talks today in London after undergoing a medical. Rodrigo Defendi, a Brazilian defender who has not played in the first team at Tottenham, will move to the Serie A club as part of the deal.

他回热刺，虽然不舍得，但是在这么多场热身赛中都没能进球，没能证明自己适合罗马。现金拿来买LECCE的武器。如果他不来野兽能来也行，不介意。

MIDO is set to return to Spurs in a permanent deal.

The Egypt striker, 23, spent 18 months on loan at White Hart Lane before going back to Roma.

Egypt’s national coach Hassan Shehata revealed that Mido was yesterday travelling to London to discuss a long-term deal ahead of Thursday’s transfer deadline.

Mido went back to Roma this summer after Spurs boss Martin Jol opted to sign Dimitar Berbatov from Bayer Leverkusen. But two defeats in three Premiership games have forced Jol to reconsider signing the volatile star, who scored 11 times in 27 matches.

He came on as a sub in Roma's 4-3 defeat by Inter Milan in the Italian Super Cup on Saturday. But the Italian side’s coach Luciano Spalletti has told Mido he is not part of his plans.

Shehata let the cat out of the bag in Cairo when he named Mido in his 22-man squad for their opening 2008 African Nations Cup qualifier against Burundi on Saturday.

He said: “Mido told me he will travel to London to have a medical before signing for Tottenham.

“He will be back in Egypt on Wednesday to join up with his colleagues in the national team.” Newcastle are also interested in taking Mido on loan to bolster their strike force.
