Inter are understood to be preparing a bid for Cristian Chivu – even if Roma insist he is going nowhere.
The defender’s future is in doubt as his contract expires in 2008 and talks regarding a renewal are still at an early stage.
Real Madrid, Barcelona, Milan and Juventus are monitoring the stopper’s situation, but the Italian champions are very keen.
Chivu is highly considered by Coach Roberto Mancini who believes he could become the new Sinisa Mihajlovic and would represent an excellent alternative to Marco Materazzi.
The two clubs allegedly started to discuss the proposed operation after the second leg of the Coppa Italia Final on Thursday.
The Giallorossi are supposedly ready to sell rather than run the risk of losing him next year on a Bosman transfer.
However, Chivu’s agent has claimed this week that the former Ajax stopper would soon put pen to paper on an extension.
And Roma’s technical director Bruno Conti has declared that the club does not intend to sacrifice any of their star men such as Amantino Mancini, Philippe Mexes and Chivu himself.
“There have been many rumours over the contract renewals of some of our key players,” said Conti on Friday.
“We want to try to satisfy all of their requests in order to keep them here,” added the 1982 World Cup winner.
“Mexes? Somebody is trying to create problems between him and the club, but the relationship between us is really excellent.”
