DR Congo striker Shabani Nonda has signed a three-year deal with UEFA Cup challengers AS Roma. Injury woe The 28-year-old ends a five-season spell at AS Monaco FC after struggling to break back into the team after sustaining a bad knee injury in August 2003. He did return towards the end of last season, making an appearance in the 3-0 defeat by FC Porto in the UEFA Champions League final, but has been a peripheral figure at the club ever since, making just three starts last term. Free-scoring forward The demise is in stark contrast to Nonda's startling emergence with Stade Rennais FC in 1998, scoring 31 goals in two season before moving to the Stade Louis II. He struck 26 times in 2002/03 to finish top of the Ligue 1 scoring charts before sustaining a knee injury four games – and three goals – into the new season. Cup date The Bujundi-born forward has accepted a move to Roma who, despite struggling in the league, have booked a European place by reaching the Coppa Italia final against FC Internazionale Milano, the first leg of which takes place on Sunday.

Roma have completed the signing of Shabani Nonda.

The DR Congo international has penned a three-year deal at Estadio Olimpico after seeing out his contract at Monaco.

Nonda has been looking for a new challenge after failing to hold down a regular place in the Monaco side last season.

The former Rennes man had been linked with moves to Juventus and Rangers, but Roma have won the race for his signature.

Nonda was delighted to be making the move to the Italian capital.

"I am happy to join Roma, a great club, an important side with players of international level," Nonda told the club's official website.

"A particular thanks to the Sensi family and the leaders of Roma who believe in my potential and have given me more motivation to come to Roma."
