Napoli Accuse Roma After Esposito Move Collapse
Napoli sports director Pierpaolo Marino has pointed the finger at Roma after the deal to sign Mauro Esposito fell through at the last minute.
The 28-year-old had seemed on the verge of a transfer to his hometown club after Napoli had come to an agreement with Esposito’s co-owners Cagliari.
“Mauro is an exceptional lad and asked me to let him wear the Napoli shirt as it is his dream,” explained Cagliari chief Massimo Cellino on Wednesday.
“I would be happy to take him back, but he wants to go to Napoli and I have agreed to that as a favour to Mauro.”
However Roma, who had originally seemed set to permit the transfer, then had a late change of heart and insisted that Esposito stay put.
"We had the agreement with Cagliari, but (co-owners) Roma at the last minute did not present themselves,” said a clearly unhappy Marino.
“Evidently they changed their mind and preferred to keep the player."
Marino was clearly irked by the fact that Esposito has only featured for Roma five times in Serie A this season, making no starts.
This is in direct contrast to his time at Cagliari, where he formed a devastating partnership with David Suazo, before the pair moved on to pastures new last summer.
Esposito has always revealed his desire to play for Napoli one day, and a transfer could still be on the cards in the summer for the six-time capped Italy international.

埃斯波西托在罗马这半个赛季从未首发上场，替补也只有5次。为此他很是恼火。这与他在卡利亚里的表现有着天壤之别，上赛季它与苏亚佐的组合堪称恐怖。
