The out-of-favour contract rebel makes his first start for the Giallorossi in two months against Strasbourg on Thursday night and Real will be watching how he performs with close interest.

Last week Real distanced themselves from any association with the 24-year-old but, since then, star striker Raul has injured himself and Cassano has entered the reckoning once more.

With his contract dispute unlikely to be resolved in the near future and formerly ‘interested’ Serie A clubs now going cold on the Bari-born forward, Roma will be willing to be rid of their enfant terrible before he leaves for nothing at the end of the season.

The Spanish giants, meanwhile, need a quality replacement for their club captain, who could be out for up to four months.

New rules also now permit players who have appeared in the UEFA Cup to play in the Champions League so, should Cassano return to his best, a deal could be imminent.

Juventus, Inter and even Fiorentina have previously been linked with the former Under-21 international.

Cassano is also looking for regular first team football in order to win a place in Marcello Lippi’s 2006 World Cup squad.

Antonio Cassano is rejoining AS Roma after nearly two months to play in Thursday's UEFA Cup match against Strasbourg.

Roma coach Luciano Spalletti said Wednesday that the 23-year-old player was likely to start in front along with captainFrancesco Totti and Shabani Nonda at Stadio Olimpico.

Cassano, one of Italy's most expensive transfers four years ago, has been refusing a contract extension with Roma and could move to another club on a free transfer in January.

His return to action would also help his inclusion in Italy's World Cup roster.

Roma will miss suspended Simone Perrotta and injured Amantino Mancini, Vincenzo Montella and Cristian Chivu for Thursday's Group E match.

偶随便说两句：前面有人说 Ballack 不续约照样上场踢球，也不想想 Bayern 在德甲买人可比 Juve 在意甲还要方便得多——后者至少还得面对来自米兰城的竞争，前者根本就没有同一级别的竞争对手。又有人拿 Henry 说事，拜托人家的合同2007年6月才到期呢……

去黄马对卡萨诺和罗马都不是个坏消息，一来劳尔这两年确实状态下滑严重，近期又受伤4个月不能上场，引进卡萨诺可以顶替劳尔。（我相信卡萨诺的能力不会另黄马失望的）

只希望弗洛伦蒂诺不要太小气……

想問問 現在montella的薪水是多少吧?? 畢竟他已經老啊, 如果薪酬還這麼高的話,為甚麼不選擇放棄他來和cassano續約呢?? 需我個人也很喜歡montella, 但機於球會的兢爭性, 我覺得這也是個不錯的選擇. 老實說, 我們還能引進多個像cassano這種人才嗎? 這也是俱樂部的未來啊~~~
