| Argentine Diego Placente’s agent has spoken favourably of a switch to Serie A and Roma are in pole position.
Bayer Leverkusen have offered the defender a new deal, but he is out of contract at the end of this season and does not seem intent on staying in Germany.
“Leverkusen are in a difficult financial situation and he wants to move to either Italy or Spain,” revealed agent Giovanni Morabito.
“He is a sought-after player who has already adapted to the European style and is a real guarantee for any top club.”
Placente has long been linked with Roma, especially when Coach Fabio Capello was in charge of the club, which has led to several different transfer rumours. Juventus, Inter and Milan are also said to be tracking the international.
“Roma are definitely interested,” continued the representative, “but before beginning talks we must wait and see what their situation will be for next season.”
The Giallorossi are currently hovering just above the relegation zone, but are assured of a spot in the UEFA Cup after reaching the Coppa Italia Final. As fellow Finalists Inter are already in the Champions’ League, but place goes automatically to Bruno Conti’s men.
