Capello confident of Roma future
Sunday 21 March, 2004

Fabio Capello has revealed his tactics for the derby, but is forced to comment on Francesco Totti’s threats to leave.
“I am very confident and have full faith in this club,” assured the Roma Coach. “I trust that the team will continue to be at the top of Italian and international football. It took a lot of work to get here and we’re not about to give up now.”
The Giallorossi camp was thrown into disarray on Saturday when Totti confessed financial problems at the club could ensure this was his “final Rome derby.”
“Totti is a part of this team and will continue to hold that role over the next few years,” insisted Capello.
The timing of these statements – and Director of Sport Franco Baldini’s hints that several stars would have to be sold – is particularly bad, as they will enter the Derby della Capitale tonight.
There were also problems within the squad, as last week Christian Panucci was fined £80,000 for refusing to come off the bench in the 0-0 draw with Reggina.
“Panucci will play,” revealed Capello after forgiving the defender. “We will field a 4-4-2 system.”
Jonathan Zebina and Daniele De Rossi are out of action, but there are reports that Vincenzo Montella will make a surprise start.
The ‘Little Aeroplane’ is the second top scorer of all time in the history of the Rome derby with eight goals, while Marco Delvecchio is on the bench with his tally of nine.
Roma squad: 32 Candela, 23 Carew, 18 Cassano, 4 Chivu, 21 D’Agostino, 15 Dacourt, 24 Delvecchio, 31 Dellas, 11 Emerson, 8 Lima, 3 Lupatelli, 30 Mancini, 9 Montella, 2 Panucci, 22 Pelizzoli, 19 Samuel, 17 Tommasi, 10 Totti, 12 Zotti
