Del Neri changes tack Sunday 31 October, 2004

Roma’s dismal performance against Juve has pushed Coach Gigi Del Neri to change his tactics once again after the experiment failed.
“In Turin we played with a three-man defence for the first and last time,” stated the Giallorossi boss. “We’ll never do that again and it’s four at the back from now on
That 2-0 defeat on Thursday evening highlighted the Capital club’s problems in defence and confirmed the current poor form of Matteo Ferrari.
“I can tell you that Ferrari will play against Cagliari,” he assured. “I think that is my best response to any questions about his future.”.”
The defence has been further weakened by the fact Christian Panucci has been frozen out for turning up late to training. To make matters worse, it’s claimed he criticised his teammates for “fraternising” with the enemy.
“If we wanted to breed violence, then Antonio Cassano and Emerson should have slapped each other instead of shaking hands,” insisted Del Neri. “I saw what football ought to be, the kind of sport that leaves its problems off the pitch. But instead of concentrating on this the press highlights Cassano smiling at Jonathan Zebina as an act of treason. This attitude disappoints me.”
The good news for Roma is that Daniele De Rossi has recovered from a muscular problem that had kept him out of his last two games, and is part of the squad ready to take on Cagliari. Vincent Candela is also back, but Marco Delvecchio, Ivan Pelizzoli, Olivier Dacourt and the ‘punished’ Panucci are out.
