Trap's Cassano hint
Italy coach Giovanni Trapattoni has revealed the recent performances of Roma star Antonio Cassano have caught his eye.
Cassano has long been tipped for greatness, but flashes of temperament have often threatened to undermine his claims for a place in the national set-up.
However, the youngster has knuckled down of late and he produced a bewitching performance as Roma overwhelmed Internazionale at the weekend.
A continuation on the same upward curve in the remaining months of the season would make it hard for Trapattoni to resist including him in his plans, a fact the Azzurri coach acknowledges.
"Cassano at Euro 2004?" said Trapattoni. "He's producing some really good things at the moment; let's hope he continues in the same way."
Cassano is seen as the heir apparent to Francesco Totti's crown in the Eternal City and a recommendation from the Roma captain could see Trapattoni give the youngster the nod for the trip to Portugal.
"Certainly this friendship has helped him a lot up to now and will help him in the future," Trapattoni said of the relationship between Totti and Cassano.
"I am not saying that Totti's friendship with Cassano can favour him for participation at the European Championship.
"The only thing I can say to Cassano is to follow Totti and you will make good things."
