BUILD-UP
The day before the derby is a normal day. Tomorrow we have a match like every Sunday. We've worked well trying to prepare for our opponents in the best possible way.
PLAYERS
How do the players seem? Those who have played games like this before know what to expect. Those who haven't will realise tomorrow.
TEAM SELECTION
I've tried out all the possible solutions for tomorrow during the course of the week. Everyone is available except Stekelenburg and Lobont. Totti and Osvaldo? They're available for selection but we have to assess their fitness. I often have the line-up in my head the day before a game but then I always elaborate my ideas based on the players' fitness.
IMPROVEMENT
What sort of Roma would I like to see tomorrow? My hope is always to see my team improving and that's what I hope to see tomorrow. What have we lacked up until now? Consistency over 90 minutes and concentration.
MEMORIES
Which derby do I remember most vividly? You normally remember the first one. I was the Lazio coach and we lost 3-0.
COUNTER-MOVES
Will I pick my team based on who Petkovic decides to field? We're preparing to face Lazio, not their individual players.
FANS
What's the difference between the two sets of fans? Roma have very passionate and loyal fans. There were 40,000 for our friendly match and at Lazio's there were 500. I think they are different. I understand how important the derby is for the fans. I hope they can come to the game and see good football. You always hope there are no problems in the stands. Most people come to the stadium to watch the match and get behind the team in a normal way.
PETKOVIC
I don't know him well but he's doing a great job. During the pre-season, even though it might have seemed he wasn't getting good results, he laid the groundwork for the season. Now he's looking to play good football with a well-organised team that can cause problems for anyone. A joint press conference with him? Lazio didn't have time because of their European commitments this week. Next time.
DEFENCE
Who will my centre-back pairing be? Castan wasn't at his best during the week but he's ok again today. I have four centre-halves that I have great confidence in and I make my choice each time depending on what sort of game we expect to face. I might get it wrong sometimes, of course. Has there been a change in the pecking order? It changes every week. From the beginning I've said that I have a competitive squad and that everyone has a useful role to play. You have to work out the physical and psychological state of the players every Sunday.
GOICOECHEA
Stekelenburg hasn't recovered and Goicoechea will play. I'm confident in Mauro, he's played well so far and I hope he'll keep it up.
PALERMO
We played very well last Sunday. I hope the lads have learnt the lesson. We managed to play attacking football for 90 minutes against a team that had gone five games unbeaten before coming to Rome.
DE ROSSI
Daniele has always trained with the main group, apart from the first day. He still has the odd little problem but it's nothing he can't get over. He's available.
DODO'
He's making huge strides forward. He still needs to work on building up his stamina, as we saw against Palermo, but he's clearly on the up.
DESTRO
Destro was wrong to take his shirt off last Sunday but even the most experienced players have made the same mistake. We all hope he's learnt from it.
WEATHER
What will we do if it rains and the pitch is soggy? It's up to the referee to assess the state of the pitch. Against Parma we played a game that according to the rules shouldn't have gone ahead. If it does pour down tomorrow, I hope the Olimpico turf can hold up for the 90 minutes. |
