Roma have turned their attention to Palermo striker Edinson Cavani in an attempt to strengthen their front line, according to Il Corriere Dello Sport.
The Giallorossi are hoping to find consistency following a number of problems which affected their attacking department last season. Mirko Vucinic, Francesco Totti and Julio Baptista all suffered from various injuries over the course of the season; Montenegrin international Vucinic in particular has been strongly tipped to move on.
Cavani was outstanding last term, scoring 14 goals in 35 games for the Rosanero. The 22-year-old Uruguayan has attracted the attention of several clubs, but Roma seem first in line to make a move. Coach Luciano Spalletti has already received guarantees from the club that he will be able to spend some money during the transfer window.
Cavani earns less than 1 million per season at Palermo and this would suit Roma's desire to keep wage expenses down. However, the player's contract expires in 2011 and fiery Palermo president Maurizio Zamparini has claimed he is not willing to sell his most prized assets.
