Roma’s Vincenzo Montella is out for the rest of the season after he was told that he would need another operation.
The former Sampdoria striker has had an injury hit campaign and he was dealt further bad news today.
Montella has been suffering with a right knee problem for some months now and he did go under the knife in December.
However, his return to action was short lived as tests have confirmed that he will need more surgery to rectify the problem.
The striker, who had started the season hopeful of making the Euro 2004 squad, will be treated on April 30 in Switzerland.
It is unclear at this stage whether Montella will ever play for Roma again seeing as he has been linked with a move away from the club in the summer.
Meanwhile, Roma are today being associated with a move for Leeds striker Mark Viduka.
The Australian is being tipped to replace John Carew, who should return to Valencia next term once his loan spell expires.
