| | Chievo deny Semioli sale | Monday 9 October, 2006 |
| | Chievo Verona have dismissed suggestions that they have already agreed to sell Franco Semioli to Roma in January.
Reports in Italy have claimed that the two clubs have sorted out a New Year switch following Chievo’s exit from European competition.
However, the Verona-based outfit have categorically denied that any transfer has been ironed out for the winger.
“The sale of Semioli is the last thing we are thinking about right now,” stated sporting director Giovanni Sartori.
“I also doubt that [Roma transfer chief Daniele] Prade and Roma spend all day thinking about transfers.”
However, Sartori – who himself has been linked with a move to the capital club – did confirm that Semioli was targeted by the Giallorossi in the past.
“There was a negotiation in place in which Roma made us an offer for Franco,” continued the official. “But we didn’t think it was good enough.
“I can assure all of the Chievo fans that there has been no more contact with anyone since the transfer window closed.”
Semioli is an emerging midfielder whose form last season saw him win international recognition, even if he just missed out on a place in the 2006 World Cup Finals. |
