Udinese hang on to Spalletti
The Friuli break-up is increasingly bitter, as Udinese now insist they won’t release Luciano Spalletti, so Roma could turn to Giovanni Trapattoni. The Coach offered his written resignation this week and made it clear he wants to take the Giallorossi job, but the club is refusing to let him go without remuneration. “We have not reached an agreement and therefore the contract continues to stand,” explained director general Pietro Leonardi after a meeting on Saturday evening. It is reported that Spalletti refused to pay a ‘toll’ to free himself from the contract which still has another year to run. With this in mind, Roma could begin to look elsewhere in order to find a Coach as soon as possible rather than wait out a potentially lengthy legal battle. The other main candidates for the Stadio Olimpico bench are Zdenek Zeman – who has left Lecce – and Giovanni Trapattoni. Trap had been linked with the job over at Lazio, but the club eventually chose former Atalanta man Delio Rossi. Trapattoni has international pedigree and is fresh from winning the Portuguese title with Benfica, but he has made his desire to return to Serie A very clear.(CHANNEL4) |
