Marchegiani opts to quit
Veteran Italian goalkeeper Luca Marchegiani has retired from the game after failing to find a new club.
The former Torino and Lazio custodian has decided to hang up his gloves after being released by Chievo in the summer.
There was talk that he could possibly move to Roma but the 39-year-old’s proposed transfer to the capital collapsed.
"There was a time when Roma and I looked like striking a deal but nothing happened," he told the Gazzetta dello Sport.
"I've thought about it for a long time and I've decided to now quit. I’m already studying to become a ‘keeper Coach."
Marchegiani was capped nine times by Italy, even making an appearance at the 1994 World Cup following Gianluca Pagliuca’s suspension.
