Roma will play their next Coppa Italia home match on neutral ground after fans disrupted last week’s tie at Siena.
Giallorossi supporters threw fireworks onto the pitch, causing the game to be suspended for over an hour due to poor visibility.
Italian football authorities have this evening decided to close the Olimpico and order their next game in the competition to be played behind closed doors.
The ban will apply to the quarter-final match against Fiorentina, which is scheduled for January 26.
This is the third time in 12 months that the capital club have been punished due to the behaviour of their followers.
The outfit were ordered to play a number of League games outside of Rome last season after fans caused the abandonment of the derby. The club opted to play at Palermo instead.
Then in September, referee Anders Frick was wounded by an object thrown from the stands during a Champions’ League tie.
UEFA subsequently closed the arena to fans for the 1-1 with Bayer Leverkusen and the 3-0 defeat to Real Madrid. （CHANNEL4）
