Real Madrid stopper Walter Samuel has become a January transfer target for Internazionale.
The Nerazzurri are struggling defensively and reports in Italy suggest that the Argentine could be set for a swift return to Serie A.
Samuel left Roma for Real in the summer but he has struggled to settle in his new surroundings.
That has fuelled speculation that the 26-year-old could be considering his future with the European giants.
Inter are apparently ready to make an offer for the South American given their problems at the back.
The San Siro giants have conceded 20 goals in just 12 games so far, which has basically seen them ruled out of the title race.
Whispers in the peninsula claim that transfer officials Marco Branca and Lele Oriali will fly out to Madrid in the next week to discuss a bid for the centre-back.
However, there seem to be two major hurdles to get over at this moment in time regarding the proposed switch.
Real are short of defenders and are unlikely to release Samuel unless they can bring in a new stopper themselves in the New Year.
Samuel would also not be available in the Champions’ League given that he has already appeared for the Madrid outfit in Europe this term.
