Monaco full back Patrice Evra insists he will not leave Stade Louis II during the transfer window, despite acknowledging Roma's interest in his services.
The France international is among the most coveted defenders in Europe, with the likes of Barcelona, Juventus, Manchester United and the Milan clubs tracking his progress.
Roma had emerged as the favourites to poach Evra from Monaco, with the 23-year-old aware of the Italian side's willingness to sign him.
But Evra admits he will not be walking out on last season's UEFA Champions League runners-up when the transfer window reopens in the New Year.
Evra signed a new contract with Monaco in September and that ties him to the Principality club until 2008.
Though Evra has suitors from Europe's three biggest leagues, he concedes La Liga is his preferred destination, with The Premiership barely causing a ripple.
"I am not really attracted by England, I would prefer Spain," Evra told L'Equipe.
"It is true that Roma have been following me since last season but they are not alone.
"People say Roma would want me to join them during the transfer window but it is impossible.
"I am a Monaco player at least until June, it must be clear. I would never abandon my friends during the winter transfer window. You have my word."
