Roma contest De Rossi decision
Wednesday, 27 October 2004
AS Roma have lodged an appeal against the three-match ban imposed on midfielder Daniele De Rossi for his dismissal for violent conduct in the Italian club's recent UEFA Champions League tie against Bayer 04 Leverkusen. The appeals hearing is likely to take place on 19 November.
Video evidence
De Rossi was due to be suspended for one game after being shown a red card in the 87th minute of the Group B encounter in Germany. However, UEFA announced last Friday that the ban had been extended to three matches by UEFA's Control and Disciplinary Body after reviewing video evidence. De Rossi was sent off after he kicked out at Leverkusen's Jacek Krzynówek.
Panucci ban final
Meanwhile, the decision to hand a two-game ban to another Roma player, Christian Panucci, has become final as there has been no appeal. Panucci was red-carded in the 61st minute of the same match for elbowing Krzynówek as the two players rose for a header. The Control and Disciplinary Body decided that this example of particularly rough play merited a two-game suspension.
