Totti a major doubt for ParmaFrancesco Totti could miss Saturday’s trip to Parma, while Roma’s game against Cagliari has been moved to the neutral turf of Rieti.
The Giallorossi captain has been struggling with an ankle problem for the past few weeks and the 1-0 Coppa Italia defeat to Juventus last night saw the injury flare up again.
His ankle has swollen and club doctors are not hopeful he can recover in time for Saturday’s encounter at the Stadio Tardini.
He skipped training today and underwent physiotherapy, while Vincenzo Montella joined his teammates for the first time in two months as he recovers from back surgery.
Should Totti fail to make it, Rodrigo Taddei will again be introduced as the lone striker with support from Amantino Mancini, Simone Perrotta and Damiano Tommasi.
Roma have been handed a one-match ban on the Stadio Olimpico after anti-Semitic banners and Swastikas were unfurled during Sunday’s 3-0 win over Livorno.
Their next home game against Cagliari on February 8 will be played behind closed doors at the Stadio Centro d’Italia at Rieti.
The 11 'fans' who held up the banner have now been identified as members of a far-right political group. They risk a prison sentence of between three months and a year.
That incident raised questions on security in Italian arenas and Lazio President Claudio Lotito explained just how the banners are allowed in.
“The Stadio Olimpico is open seven days a week, so anything can be smuggled in there,” warned the patron. “The security is full of holes. Until the stadiums are owned by the clubs, there’s precious little we can do about it. If I were in charge of that building, I can assure you those banners would not get in.”
In Italy, the stadiums are owned by the city councils and merely rented to the clubs for a period of several years. As they do not own the structures, the teams cannot legally impose their own security measures inside.
