| Brighi halfway to Napoli | Thursday 9 August, 2007 |
| Roma’s Matteo Brighi has a 50 per cent chance of joining Napoli, according to the midfielder’s agent.
The 26-year-old ex-Juventus man spent the last three seasons on loan to Chievo, but is looking for a new club after the Gialloblu’s relegation to Serie B.
Napoli have been the favourites to claim his signature and speculation has increased after Vesuviani President Aurelio De Laurentiis announced he was lining up three new recruits after Wednesday’s Birra Moretti Trophy.
However, it is believed that Roma boss Luciano Spalletti is determined to keep Brighi at the Stadio Olimpico so his future is up in the air.
“The ball is still in the Giallorossi’s court,” stated Vanni Puzzolo. “They should decide before August 19 when they play for the Italian Super Cup.
“I have spoken to Napoli representatives and told them the situation, but it remains to be seen whether they are willing to wait that long.”
When asked whether he has any information on the identities of the Stadio San Paolo outfit’s other targets, Puzzolo was tight-lipped.
“I know that the Partenopei are looking for a key defender, but for the moment the name is being kept a secret,” he said cryptically.
