Italian international midfielder Alberto Aquilani’s contract with Roma is set to expire in June 2010 and talks to extend his stay in the Italian capital have been ongoing since last summer.
There were rumours in recent weeks that the 24-year-old was about to put pen to paper on a new deal, however, it now seems that the parties are further apart than ever.
Moreover, the midfield ace apparently refused to shake hands with coach Luciano Spalletti last Sunday after the 3-0 win over Genoa and Italian media have started speculating that his future could lie away from the Stadio Olimpico.
According to RomaGiallorossa.com, the episode was just a misunderstanding and Aquilani has already cleared the air with the tactician.
However, La Gazzetta dello Sport today reports that this situation could push the parties to go their separate ways in the summer and Inter seem to be the most likely destination for Aquilani.
Nerazzurri coach Jose Mourinho has long been an admirer of the midfield talent, however, the Via Durini directors will be expected to shell out no less than 20 million to secure the player’s services. They could have to beat-off competition from Juventus, who have also been tracking the player in recent seasons.
