The Tuscan coach formalized his resignation from the Bianconeri’s club with a letter.

Luciano Spalletti is no longer at the helm of Udinese following a one hour meeting with the General Director of the club, Pietro Leonardi, in which the now former Bianconero coach presented a written letter, stating his intention of leaving the team. Spalletti, who led Udinese to a prestigious and historic Champions League spot, is tipped to take over the Roma bench and an announcement is expected to arrive by next week.

If he wants to join Roma then that is a problem to be sorted out between the Giallorossi and him.” The situation had been clear for several days, but Udinese tried to smooth over the cracks by offering Spalletti an improved contract or even a new directorial position similar to that of Arrigo Sacchi at Real Madrid. Now it is only a matter of hours before the former Empoli and Sampdoria Coach completes his move to Roma. Spalletti had said his desire to leave Udinese was linked in with their extraordinarily successful fourth-place finish, as he could not live up to the promise of providing Champions’ League qualification every season. “Udinese, as President Giampaolo Pozzo has said many times, simply wishes to settle itself into the higher end of Serie A mid-table status,” insisted director Leonardi. “That doesn’t mean finishing third or fourth, but trying to stay in that general area and always attempting to do our best.”
