Il contenzioso per Philippe Mexes comincia ad assumere i contorni di una guerra psicologica dai risvolti grotteschi. L'Auxerre, che afferma di avere ancora il giocatore sotto contratto fino al 2006, ha infatti presentato Mexes. Una presentazione in contumacia, visto che il biondo difensore francese già si allena con la Roma e ha firmato un contratto di quattro anni con il club di Trigoria.

Pronta la reazione del procuratore del difensore, Olivier Joanneaux: "Tutto questo è una farsa. So che l'Auxerre è già in trattativa con altre squadre e che ha preso un difensore dello Charleroi che fa parte del giro dell'under 21, Mickael Ciani. Noi aspettiamo il transfert internazionale. Quando arriverà? Deve arrivare entro la fine di agosto. L'Auxerre sta giocando il suo gioco, vedremo come andrà a finire. The argument over Philippe Mexes's move to Roma is rumbling on, with the player set to tour with his new club, but Auxerre allocating the defender a shirt number.
Mexes activated a controversial release clause to seal a move to Roma, but Auxerre insist that this was null and void and that they still hold the player's registration.

The French Football Federation have officially blocked the move, but agent Olivier Jouanneaux is expecting a Fifa ruling that will allow the protracted transfer to go ahead.

"We are calm and Philippe will play with Roma," insisted Jouanneaux. "Everything will be okay by the end of August.

"Philippe wants to play with Roma. He feels really good here.

"We have asked for a Fifa intervention but, incredibly, they haven't made a decision.

"Auxerre's only aim is to earn more money."
