Cosmi Denies Roma Approach

Genoa boss Serse Cosmi has rejected reports he is in talks with AS Roma for a summer move to the Giallorossi.

”I never had contacts with Roma, at least nothing official. In football there are many charlatans and its possible I spoke to one of these, but only because I’m an open type of guy,” said the former Perugia boss. “I still have two years left on my Genoa contract, and therefore I want to stay, but at the end of the year its fair the club takes its decisions and we could re-discuss everything,” he added. Reports from the town home to the oldest football club in Italy indicate Cosmi’s relationship with chairman Preziosi has been deteriorating in the past months, and they could part ways once the season ends. Genoa currently sit second in the Serie B table, and need a win on Sunday to return to the Serie A almost over a decade of absence. Spalletti, Zeman, and Guidolin are also in the running for the Giallorosso bench.

It has been rumoured that Alberto Zaccheroni will return to Udinese in order to replace Luciano Spalletti, now set for Roma following Francesco Guidolin’s step back. The Friuli outfit has qualified for the Champions’ League preliminary round, but has already sold Marek Jankulovski to Milan and now looks set to make further changes with David Di Michele, David Pizarro and Vincenzo Iaquinta all on the market. Coach Spalletti is also a sought-after figure and reports have repeatedly linked him with the vacant job at Roma – where he is in competition with Giovanni Trapattoni. Francesco Guidolin was also in the running for that position, but made a statement this weekend suggesting he was not prepared to enter into the same heated atmosphere that drove both Rudi Voller and Luigi Del Neri to hand in their resignation. “If there was a hostile climate to my arrival in Rome, then I wouldn’t join the Giallorossi even if they paid me handsomely,” the former Palermo boss told Radio Spazio Aperto. If Spalletti is to take the position – on a three-year contract said to double his current wages – then it’s claimed that his replacement in Udine would be a very familiar face indeed. Udinese had their best ever season under Zaccheroni, finishing third behind Juventus and Inter in 1997-98. He won the Scudetto with Milan, but has since wavered with middling performances at Lazio and the Nerazzurri. “Spalletti has a contract with us until 2006,” assured Udinese director general Pietro Leonardi. “As far as we are concerned there is no problem. We are relaxed and have not planned any imminent meeting with the Coach.”

Reports linking the former Parma and Roma boss to the Stadio Artemio Franchi have been circulating for several weeks and it seems as if the official announcement will be made over the next couple of days.

“I am certainly honoured by Fiorentina’s interest in me and it represents a big responsibility,” he told Radioblu. “Let’s not forget there’s a large Viola-supporting contingent in my home village of Orzinuovi, so I have to be good!”

This is an important return to the world of football for Prandelli, who quit the Roma post just a few weeks before the start of the season so that he could nurse his wife through a serious illness.

“I have missed the game and when I feel low I try to have a run-out on my local pitch,” he revealed. “That’s where it all starts and we have to teach young players about respect for their opponents and how to accept defeat gracefully.”

Prandelli’s arrival is the start of a new era for the Viola, who narrowly avoided relegation with a 3-0 win over Brescia and other results going their way.

Bernardo Corradi表态 “Prandelli is one of the best Coaches around,” said Bernardo Corradi. “Everyone has spoken well of him and the Della Valle family evidently have an ambitious project in place. I’d come running to Fiorentina and in January the move was nearly completed.”

Corradi has not settled in at Valencia since his summer switch from Lazio and is expected to return to Serie A in the close season. Fiorentina would be a good solution for the centre-forward, who would give them some much-needed height, while Christian Riganò is set to join Napoli.
