Milan are reportedly interested in Roma defender Philippe Mexes and could make a move when the January transfer window opens.
The 24-year-old Frenchman is contracted to the Giallorossi until 2008, but a clause in the agreement would allow him to leave for as little as £7.5m.
Roma’s sporting director Daniele Pradè has admitted they would have to fight to hold on to Mexes after the club put new contract talks on-hold until the New Year.
Milan are keen to strengthen their defence, seeing as veterans such as Paolo Maldini, Alessandro Costacurta and Marcos Cafu may be retiring in June.
Mexes had recently denied that he was interested in leaving the capital city club, despite having attracted the interest of clubs of the likes of Real Madrid.
“I cannot see myself playing for another club, it’s not about the money and in any case I have no intention of availing myself of the rescission clause,” the defender had declared.
The Giallorosso’s name remains the first one on Milan’s wish list, followed by Palermo man Andrea Barzagli, although he is valued at £14m and is also a reported target for Juventus.
