Italy played well in the first half, similar to the way they played before the European Championships. The team created various scoring occasions, but scored only on 39' thanks to a penalty kick by Aquilani and, above all, the team never had problems on defense. A concrete team, the way that Gentile wanted them to be, given the importance of the match as preparation for the upcoming European qualifying match on March 25th in Pavia.
The team adapted well to the new module giving Gentile the confidence needed for future decisions.
in the second half, Russia tied with a penalty kick, but on 29' the Under went ahead with a nice goal scored by Pagano, giving Italy the win.
Gentile had this to say after the match: "After a good first half, the team showed some fatigue in the second and was less brilliant, but this was ok. I am pleased with how my boys interpreted the new module, and I think that I can definitely use it again in the future".
