A.S. Roma keeper Júlio Sérgio is finally fully fit again after recovering from an anterior cruciate ligament injury he picked up in March this year. However, the stopper has dropped down the pecking order at the Italian giants and is hoping to terminate his contract with the club once he finds a new alternative.
Sérgio, 34, has found himself competing for the number 1 jersey with Maarten Stekelenburg, Bogdon Lobont, Mauro Goicoechea and Lithuanian Tomas Svedkauskas, but is ready to play and is willing to leave Rome to do so.
He told Lancenet: "I have a contract until June 2014. Unfortunately I had this injury but I have finished the work of physiotherapy. I've finished all the injury recovery that I needed following the cruciate ligament injury and I'm 100% recovered. Now I want to work with the ball as soon as possible for when I reintroduce in January, either in Rome or in another team."
The former Santos keeper is weighing up his options but has had proposals.
"I received some proposals and I was happy, because it's still early for clubs to start thinking about it. But it's like I said, I have two-year contract with the club and It's obviously important to think in this condition.
"If I come out of Rome today I would like to leave permanently. Because at this point I have to think about my family, my children. I want something definitive.
