Beretta in awe of Roma Saturday 4 February, 2006 --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Parma boss Mario Beretta has heaped praise on the “fantastic” Roma side that will visit the Tardini tonight. “At the moment, Roma are the form side in Serie A,” explained the Coach ahead of this evening’s encounter.
“We’ll try to win the game, as that’s what we always do, but realise that the Giallorossi are a superior team.”
The capital club is looking for a record seventh consecutive victory in the League, even if Francesco Totti is a doubt with an ankle injury.
“Totti has talents that go beyond the everyday. He can score and create goals, is physically strong and can take on various roles. There are also other players who can change the face of the game at any moment, such as Amantino Mancini, Daniele De Rossi, Simone Perrotta and Rodrigo Taddei.”
Roma had a difficult start to the campaign, but have ironically improved in leaps and bounds since Antonio Cassano’s departure and injuries to Vincenzo Montella and Shabani Nonda left them without any available centre-forwards.
“I think that much of that success is down to Luciano Spalletti, who is in my view one of the best Italian tacticians,” continued Beretta. “Wherever he goes, he always manages to create an organised squad.”
Parma have been dealing with an injury crisis all the way through the season, but have not found a tactical key to emerge from it with flying colours.
“I have precious few options at my disposal and must be extra careful to evaluate the fitness and form of the individual players, as there is a midweek round on Wednesday and won’t have much time to recover.”
The Gialloblu are without Ibrahima Camara, Ferdinand Coly, Damiano Ferronetti, Filippo Savi, Marco Delvecchio, Andrea Pisanu, Giovanni Pasquale and the suspended Matteo Contini. Domenico Morfeo and Marco Marchionni should act in support of former Lazio hitman Bernardo Corradi.
