However, Roma seem ready to bring out the pens and paperwork and end the rumours regarding Aquilani’s new deal.
Leggo claims that the player’s father and his agent Franco Zavaglia will sit down with the club’s directors during the game against Cluj next week.
Roma are trying to offer the Italian over 欧元2m per season but there is still a欧元300,000 difference to what the player is demanding.
The deal is set to run until 2012, Aquilani’s current contract expires in 2010. The club are also trying to fend off interest from Juventus and Real Madrid by inserting a 欧元buy out clausel.
The Old Lady and Los Merengues were sniffing around all summer but Roma played hardball and they resisted the pushing and shoving from both clubs.
Aquilani has always stated his ambition to remain at the club but there are also fears that this latest attempt to renew may go up in smoke given Roma’s resistance to give the player what he wants.
Zavaglia is likely to argue and bring out the Julio Baptista case as the Giallorossi went over budget when trying to accommodate his wage demands. Roma have held several meetings with Aquilani's entourage and they may not give the player another chance to renew if he refuses this latest attempt. |
