Alexander Doni’s agent has revealed that his client has rejected Roma’s initial offer regarding a new contract.
The two parties seemingly want to continue their relationship once his present deal expires in the summer, but no agreement has yet been reached.
The Giallorossi have drawn up terms in order to keep him yet the custodian wants a healthier financial package.
“The club have made an offer but we didn’t accept it,” Mario Miele explained to La Repubblica delle Banane.
“We have been meeting with the club recently and there is a verbal agreement regarding a two-year contract, but it hasn’t been signed.
“The difference between the offer and the request is not enormous, but you need the agreement of two in a marriage.”
Doni was netted at the start of this season as a more experienced alternative to current Under-21 international goalkeeper Gianluca Curci.
Although the Brazilian has made a few errors, the majority of his contribution has been positive over the whole season.
“Doni’s priority is to stay at Roma as he owes them and Coach Luciano Spalletti a debt of gratitude,” continued Miele.
“Here in the capital he would also be guaranteed the No 1 shirt for the next few years and that pleases him, but the economical terms are important too.”
Doni, recently linked with a summer move to Barcelona, is also said to be a late contender to make the World Cup squad.
“The Brazil Coach is in Italy at the minute and Doni is waiting for a call,” he stated. “We’ll see what happens.”
