Businessman Danilo Coppola has confirmed he is interested in buying up financially troubled AS Roma.
The 37-year-old property magnate has recently bought up 3.2 per cent of investment bankers BNL for £117m.
“It is true that I have ordered a full appraisal of Roma’s books with an interest to buy,” revealed Roman native Coppola.
President Franco Sensi has made it clear he wishes to sell up his shares in the successful club at the end of this season after ill health and mounting debts made his position increasingly difficult.
There were advanced negotiations with Russian oil magnates Nafta Moskva, but the takeover bid collapsed when the investors were “scared off” by a police investigation into all Italian football clubs’ finances.
Nonetheless, there are reports that the Russians have not ruled out a return to the negotiating table.
At the last appraisal, AS Roma had debts of approximately £170m and Sensi is asking for at least £275m in order to buy up the side.
There will be a shareholders’ meeting on April 16 in which the capital will be raised by £103m, a move that should in itself tempt investors.
