After the arrival of David Pizarro, it’s rumoured that Roma will snap up Cagliari forward Mauro Esposito to mount a real Scudetto challenge.
Coach Luciano Spalletti warned that Pizarro’s transfer was “not enough” to put them on a par with Inter and Milan, so the Giallorossi have taken him to his word and are ready for another swoop.
Esposito is top of the tactician’s wish-list and the 27-year-old Italian international would suit Spalletti’s favoured 4-2-3-1 system.
Newspaper ‘Il Romanista’ claims that a deal could be struck within the next 24 hours, as de facto President Rosella Sensi called Cagliari patron Massimo Cellino direct to discuss terms.
It would not be a financially onerous move for the club, with a reported offer of £0.8m plus Ricardo Faty and teenage striker Stefano Okaka Chuka.
The stumbling block appears to be over the status of these two players, as Roma would like to hand them over on loan, whereas the Sardinians are holding out for a co-ownership scenario.
