The agent of Messina midfielder Gaetano D'Agostino has confirmed he's been contacted by Manchester United about the 22 year-old. D'Agostino's registration is shared between Messina and Roma and the player's agent, Franco Zavaglia, declared: "It's true. There has been contact with Manchester United about D'Agostino.

"D'Agostino has flourished at Messina. His path was blocked at Roma, but there is no doubt he would have done well there as well if he had been given the chance."

Messina only have to cough up £500,000 to buyout D'Agostino's registration from Roma before possibly selling him to United for a major profit.

Udinese have snapped up former Roma player Gaetano D'Agostino from relegated-side Messina.

The 24-year-old central midfielder made the switch to Messina from the Stadio Olimpico in June after clearing co-ownership issues between the then Serie A rivals.

However, following Messina's relegation from the Italian top-flight D'Agostino made a swift return to Serie A to join Giovanni Galeone's Bianconeri.
