Villarreal Join Chase For Inter Striker Julio Cruz - Report
Reports emerged yesterday hinting that Inter veteran Julio Cruz was close to completing a switch to Serie A rivals Roma on a two-year contract worth 2.5 million per season.
But the Giallorossi could face some stiff competition from the Primera Division for the striker’s signature as a number of clubs, including Villarreal, Sevilla and Atletico Madrid, are reportedly interested in his services.
According to the Barcelona-based daily, Sport, the Yellow Submarine are seriously studying the option of recruiting the 34-year-old. But any decision will have to wait until the end of the season as the team first have to see if they qualify for next term’s Champions League or the Europa League.
Cruz would be an ideal addition to Manuel Pellegrini’s modest squad, as his current contract with the Nerazzurri expires at the end of the current campaign and he will be able to join for free.
The Argentine has always asserted that his priority is to remain in Serie A, although he has admitted that he would not discard the idea of moving abroad.
Cruz has spent the last six seasons with Inter, tallying 190 appearances in all competitions and amassing 75 goals in total. Numerous other clubs from England and Germany have also been tracking him closely.
