Panucci To Begin New Contract Talks
Christian Panucci wants to end his career at Roma and, according to reports in Italy, will begin talks over a new contract in the coming months.
Panucci joined the Giallorossi back in 2001, and has since gone on to make more than 200 Serie A appearances for the club, winning two Coppa Italia’s along the way.
Despite now being 35, Panucci is still showing good form and fitness, and indeed he was impressive for Italy at Euro 2008.
The veteran’s contract at the Stadio Olimpico runs out at the end of the coming season, and so far there have been no discussions over a new contract.
"There's no news on the renewal of Panucci’s contract,” the player’s agent Oscar Damiani told Romanews.eu last week.
“We have not yet been granted a meeting with Roma. But this week we will hear from the Giallorossi and we will see what to do."
However, the latest reports in Italy suggest that Panucci has expressed his wish to end his career in the Eternal City, and that talks over a new contract will commence in the coming weeks or months.
Panucci is likely to be offered a one-year extension until 2009, with then the option of an extra year if the player can maintain his levels of performances.
