UDPATE 1-Soccer-Euro-Totti “prosecutors” demand four-match ban
(releads with details)
LISBON, June 17 (Reuters) – Italy forward Francesco Totti should be banned for four matches after spitting at Denmark’s Christian Poulsen in a Euro 2004 match, a UEFA disciplinary committee hearing was told on Thursday.
According to Totti’s lawyers, the “prosecution” at the hearing demanded a four-match ban which would sideline Totti until the final if it was imposed by the committee.
Totti was charged by UEFA with gross unsporting conduct.
The player, flanked by Italian delegation officials and lawyers, arrived at the hearing at the Hotel Meridien in Lisbon dressed in a track suit.
The charge against him followed a complaint by the Danish Football Association that he spat in Poulsen’s face several times during Monday’s 0-0 draw.
