Esposito: Only The Goal Was Missing
Roma midfielder Mauro Esposito commented on his side's 1-0 defeat at Old Trafford in the second leg of the Champions League's quarter finals.
The result saw Roma crash out of the competition 3-0 on aggregate, but it was not as if they did not have their chances.
The best of them, of course, was Daniele De Rossi's penalty, which the midfielder skied.
There were a number of other chances, and Esposito admits that all that was missing was the ball going into the Manchester United net.
"We knew that it would be tough, but we believed," said the former Cagliari player. "Apart from the first 15 minutes, in which we were afraid, we played a good game and we only lacked the goal.
"It was a well fought and difficult game," he continued.
"They [United] are very well equipped physically. However, we put all our weapons out there. We needed at least two goals but we did not manage to score."
Esposito then spoke about Daniele De Rossi, who missed the penalty which could have unlocked the tie.
"It's normal that he is disappointed. These are things which happen. If he had scored the goal, we would have ended the first half in the lead and it could have been another game," concluded Esposito.

Emotional De Rossi apologises to Roma fans

Daniele de Rossi apologised to Roma teammates and fans after his horror spotkick miss in last night's 1-0 Champions League defeat at Manchester United.
The quarter-final could have been blown wide open if he had converted the penalty just 30 minutes in, but Carlos Tevez scored in the second half to secure a 3-0 aggregate victory for Manchester United.
"At the final whistle I apologised to the fans for the missed penalty," revealed the Giallorossi born and bred midfielder.
"I was a little emotional at that moment, not so much for the incident, but because they were still chanting my name at the end of the match.
"That means so much to me, especially after such a nightmare of a game."
Reporters mentioned that even Roberto Baggio had missed important penalties in the past, but De Rossi replied: "That is scant consolation.
"I am so upset about this, it is one of the worst moments of my career.
"In any case, we played a great Champions League this season and now, just as the fans were singing to us, we will try to win the Scudetto."
