Amauri Wanted To Join Roma
Brazilian star Amauri is undoubtedly one of the hottest properties in Serie A currently with a host of big clubs, including Juventus, Milan and Chelsea, all vying to sign him.
Yesterday the 27-year-old’s representative Mariano Grimaldi confirmed that Roma had withdrawn from the transfer race because of his excessive price-tag.
“It’s hardly news that Amauri is a transfer target, there is a lot of interest around him. The price-tag is £19m and Roma are out of the race,” Grimaldi had said.
The agent has now revealed that his client admires the Giallorossi, and in particular Francesco Totti, and would have been keen to move to the club.
"He would have liked to come to the capital, a city with a fantastic team of the highest class,” Grimaldi explained.
"Last year he was there [in Rome] for four months after the knee operation, in order to undergo physical therapy, and he established a good relationship with many Giallorossi players, especially Francesco Totti.
"Between the two there is a particular bond, and the Romanista captain has repeatedly asked the Brazilian to come and play in Rome.”
Amauri and Totti will be in action against each other tonight as Palermo travel to the Stadio Olimpico to play the Giallorossi.
