Exclusive: Pires Heading For Villarreal! 轮到潜艇了……
Goal.com has learned exclusively from sources within Spain that Arsenal's France midfielder Robert Pires will be playing for Villarreal next season.
Pires is out of contract at the end of the season, and although Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger wants him to stay, the club's policy is to offer players over 30 years of age one-year contracts.
Pires is looking for a longer deal, and although team-mate Dennis Bergkamp has agreed to one-year contracts in recent seasons, Pires has made it clear he will listen to offers from other clubs before committing himself to a such a deal with the Gunners.
He had an outstanding game for Arsenal in the midweek Champions League clash against Juventus, dispossessing former captain Patrick Vieira to set up the first goasl in an impressive 2-0 win.
Pires has scored 82 goals for the club since joining from Marseille in July 2000, and is one of only five Arsenal players in history to have been Footballer of the Year by the Football Writers' Association (2002).
Although Villarreal have not yet officially confirmed the move, but Goal.com Spain has been tipped that it is just a matter of time, with Pires lining up alongside Riquelme, Forlan and company for the 2006/2007 season. |
